About PLS

In 1965, with three employees and a vision of providing exceptional sevice to the medical community, Dr. Jack T. Peterson opened the doors of Peterson Clinical Laboratory in Manhattan, Kansas.

Today, as Peterson Laboratory Sevices, P.A., that founding philosophy remains. PLS is a full-service cytology and anatomical pathology laboratory with four Board Certified pathologists. We offer you a highly trained and experienced team of technologists, technicians, billing specialists and client service representatives.

We are proud to be locally owned and of the benefits our clients receive as a result. PLS offers you customized services to meet your laboratory needs. We are readily available to personally assist you.


Peggy S. Peterson, D.O.

Dr. Peterson is Board Certified in Clinical and Anatomical Pathology. She attended Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri and is a graduate of Kansas State University. Her medical degree was earned from the University of Health Sciences - College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri. She served an internship at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and completed her residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She also completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She holds membership in the American College of Cytology.

Susan L. Speaks, M.D., PhD

Dr. Speaks is Board Certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology. She holds a B.S. (Biology), M.S.(Medical Sciences) and PhD (Molecular Genetics of Cancer ) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She obtained her Medical Degree, with Distinction, and completed her medical residency there. She holds membership in the American Pathology Foundation, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, College of American Pathologists, United States and Canada Academy of Pathology and the Kansas Medical Society/Kansas Pathology Society. She is licensed to practice in Kansas and five surrounding states.

Tarek A. Salem, M.D.

Dr. Salem is Board Certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology. He graduated from Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. While at Creighton, he was an assistant instructor in the Hematopathology Laboratory and a lecturer in Pulmonary and Nutritional Pathology. His residency was completed at Creighton where he served as Chief Resident, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. A fifth-year pathology residency program, "Electives in Surgical and Hematopathology," was completed at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Salem holds medical licensure in Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.
